Physics is one of basic studies that is the initial basis of natural science and tries to understand wide natural phenomena ranging from atoms to the universe. Today, the importance of physics is emphasized in the promotion of basic studies and development of high technology because contents found in it is variously utilized in academic fields and descriptive science near it. The Department of Applied Photophysics teaches students who try to be physicists in the future and want to engage in the basic industry sectors theories and experimental physics and gives practical educations of various fields to be able to be immediately applied to actual businesses.
Physics tries to study the fundamental principles of overall natural phenomena ranging from the smallest particles composing the universe to the entire universe and explain them with the mathematical and logical methodology. The Department of Physics suggests this path of knowledge to the department and seeks as follows:
1. The department makes students make the most of their mathematical and logical potential ability.
2. It develops the ability to draw reasonable and secondary conclusions by utilizing the organizational methodology in subjects of study.
3. It develops the ability to apply understanding of studies around it practically.
4. It develops the ability to apply understanding of objects practically.

Today, the importance of physics is growing in the promotion of basic science and development of high technology because methods used in the research course of physics as well as its academic contents and the accompanied ability to solve problems carries considerable weight in other studies and descriptive science sectors. The Department of Applied Photophysics guides graduates to make the most of their specialized ability in each field by setting training of human resources with the strong ability to solve problems necessary for businesses, research fields of research institutes as educational objectives. The Department of Applied Photophysics has promoted the characterization of the department for the last 10 years to accomplish the educational objectives. Especially, it has arranged the project 『to foster human resources of developing games and physical engines』 by being supported receiving support of the project to strengthen local universities' innovative capabilities of the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development and has performed education to foster talented persons in the applied optical science field required for the display and lighting sectors that Korea has international competitiveness
Like this, the students who built up the foundations of physics and majored in various characterization fields have successfully entered society by entering graduate schools of the relevant fields and getting jobs of the major field. In the university evaluation of the JoongAng Ilbo in 2012, the Department of Applied Photophysics, Hallym University was ranked as the No. 1 employment rate in the physics departments in the whole country. This vividly shows that education based on the characterization fields like this is very helpful for students' entry into society.
